From April Sheris

Dear Friends,

This exhibition is more than an artistic display; it is a heartfelt journey into the stories that define us. As I curated this collection, I was struck by the profound beauty that exists in resilience—the way we, as a community, have taken what was broken and reshaped it into something powerful, vibrant, and unyielding.

Through the extraordinary work of Diamond Ryan, we are invited to reflect on the layers of our shared history, from moments of profound pain to celebrations of joy and self-love. This exhibition seeks to highlight the voices and experiences that have been passed down through generations, carried in songs, stories, and traditions.

BROKEN is not about despair but transformation. It is about taking fractured pieces and creating art that tells a story of pride, endurance, and love. It reminds us that every crack holds a narrative, and every scar is a testament to survival and growth.

As you explore this exhibition, I encourage you to immerse yourself in its textures, colors, and emotions. Engage with the stories woven into each piece, and take a moment to reflect on your own journey. How do you define brokenness? How do you celebrate the beauty of what has been made whole again?

Thank you for joining us in this celebration of Black folk art and the spirit that continues to thrive against all odds. May this experience leave you inspired, uplifted, and connected to a deeper understanding of the narratives that unite us all.

With love and gratitude,

April Sheris
